Two Tier Anniversary CakeHappy Anniversary to my parents, who married 29 years ago! My parents hadn’t planned on a party, but then my mom changed her mind and they needed a cake last minute. My husband and I are in the process of moving, so I scrambled and gathered what little supplies I had. I came up with a simple two tier cake (made from three cakes), which is a great cake to make for any occasion if you’re short on time.

I found this nice sunflower yellow in my stash. Normally, I would try and make gum paste roses, but I was short on time. The roses were piped and made with royal icing, and I was really pleased at how they came out. I did them two nights before the party, and they dried in a day! The branches are simply wire, tied together, and wrapped in white floral tape.

Cake Pops by Bakerella

It’s here! My Twitter has been swirling from all of the happy bakers who have just received their copy of Cake Pops, the book by Angie Dudley, famously known as Bakerella. Cake pops are cake balls made of cake and frosting, covered with candy melts, and placed on a stick. It’s a cake lollipop!

Angie Dudley made cake pops an international hit by blogging and posting tons and tons of really great custom decorating ideas and tips!

Rolling Stones Cake - Let It Bleed

I actually made this cake over a month ago, but I didn’t have the video camera handy at the time since we were moving. I finally decided to do a video slideshow! Enjoy!

This cake was originally made by the brilliant album designer Robert Brownjohn with the cake parts by Delia Smith for the Rolling Stones album, Let It Bleed. I just love this album cover. I had to make a completely edible version of the cake, scaled down from a 33rpm record to about the size of a 45! More details below…

The plate, record, clock face, and the band were all made with gumpaste. The gumpaste was painted with petal dust mixed with lemon extract. The faces of the Stones, the label on the real, the label on the record, and the face of the clock were detailed with edible marker. I can’t say how much edible markers make things so easy!

This cake was a yellow cake with chocolate buttercream. The piped details, including the “dragées”, were all just royal icing. The candy was secured with royal icing; they did not budge!

Cakeb0tRoyal icing details can be painted with metallic luster dust mixed with lemon extract. It really makes a nice detail, and can mimic a silver dragée when you don’t have any!

Welcome to the NEW Cakeb0t!

These past few days have been very exciting! How do you like the new site? I think it’s more clean, and it definitely shows Cakeb0t’s personality. Cakeb0t is a futuristic robot with a penchant for all things vintage. ^_^

All of the links are the same, but I tried to make it so that the site is easy to navigate. Also in the top right corner is the FREE buttercream eBooklet, The Icing on the Cake! There is still one more link, The Shop link, which is still under construction. I get a lot of emails about what to buy, and so this is one of my solutions. (Yay!)

Other exciting things have happened…

Cake Power was on TV! Fabulous Cakes, New York, was taped during my heavenly externship days at Cake Power. I got to work with an all-star NY team! EatCakeBeMerry’s Liz Shim, The Painted Lily’s Katie Robinson, a fellow ICE grad, Shena D., a very talented artist, Daphne B, and of course Kate Sullivan of Cake Power! Kate is so super sweet and funny, and I think the show really did a good job of portraying her warm personality. They shot in her workspace/home, and you even had the chance to see her husband David and cutiepie son Sam on the show!


I was really impressed by the caliber of all the cakes in this episode. The team at City Cakes made an alligator cake that was a scaly work of art, and another cake which included detailed architecture! Michelle Doll was also featured in the episode, and she had some really great techniques for molding, as well as using steam to give sugarpaste creations a sheen. Of course Kate’s two cakes- one four foot dog, and one giant mushroom topped with a gnome bride and groom, both defied gravity. She is truly a cake sculptor. You have to watch her in action! I had so much fun taping the show with the Cake Power team! I also was really excited to see all of us on TV. Even though I didn’t speak on the show, you can definitely see me quite a bit on the show! Yay! ^_^
