Ahh, I love stars. These will sail across the night sky…into your mouth! ^_^

Packaged Cake Pops for the NYC Food Blogger Bake Sale

By Cakeb0t 6 Comments

Last week’s NYC Food Blogger Bake Sale was a hit! Thanks to the hard work of organizers Ken (Hungry Rabbit) and Lillian (Sweets by Sillianah) and an awesome team of volunteers, we surpassed our $2000 goal and raised over $3500 and STILL counting for the Share Our Strength/No Kids Hungry Campaign.

Here are the cake pops I made for the event and how I packaged them!

Caramel Cake Pops

These cake pops were dipped in white chocolate and topped with caramel colored sprinkles to show what was on the inside!
For the packaging, I wrapped the pops with cellophane candy bags and tied them with white twine bows.

Vanilla Cake Pops

Simple, blue, and yummy! To make the stand, Mr. Cakeb0t used decorative paisley duct tape on cake dummies to make the stands. We got this idea when we visited Cake Lush! I like that the pattern looked seamless! Anthony also added a nice card holder on the front of the stand.

More ways you can help end childhood hunger

Check out Ken’s post for some great photos and a recap of the event! I’m glad to have baked for such a great cause even though I couldn’t be there. If you want to help, you still can:

  • Take the No Kid Hungry pledge. This is the easiest way to help, and it takes no time at all!
  • Donate online and make a change!

Speckled Egg Cake Pops

By Cakeb0t 13 Comments

Aren’t speckled eggs so super cute? I thought I’d make them and dress them with delicate twine bows, in celebration of Spring and Easter. Here’s to new life!

Why are eggs speckled? (Nerd Alert!)

You’d probably suspect that the speckles serve as some sort of camouflage for the little unhatchlings, right? Actually, National Geographic says the speckles help to make thin egg shells stronger! …I’d like to add that they make eggs cuter! >_^

The secret to speckling dessert eggs - a no mess solution!:

I found a no-mess way to make yummy speckles: vanilla bean seeds!
To seed a vanilla bean
, cut the bean in half, lengthwise. Scrape the inside of the bean with a spoon to be used in your candy melts as in the instructions below.

How to make a speckled egg cake pop

To make speckled egg cake pops, follow this tutorial on how to make cake pops, with a few small differences:

  • After mixing the cake with frosting, roll out small egg-shaped ball, using a small oval cutter of your preference as a guide. This cutter is 5/8″.
  • After applying lollipop sticks to the pop with melts, lightly pinch and roll the top of the oval to get an egg shape.
  • When in the dipping stage, add vanilla bean seeds to the liquid melts.
Fish out any large chunks and stir so the beans spread evenly throughout the mix.
  • How much vanilla bean? I used the seeds of half a bean for every 6 oz of candy melts.
  • Tie cute bows using colored twine around each stick. Cut a length of twine to tie a small bow, then trim the ends to make sure it’s neat and tiny!
Speckled Egg Cake Pops

Super easy, and super cute! Try a little speckle to add flavor and beauty to any of your cakes with this easy technique.
